This may work. Sometimes PC's get hang ups from a non-standard shut down process.

Remove the AC power cord/adapter from the laptop.

Remove the battery.

Press the "ON" button for about 10 seconds to discharge all components in the laptop.

Reinsert the battery

Reattach the ac power/adapter

Press the "ON" switch.

Hopefully the laptop will boot up properly.

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry but the guy above me is right. The Toshiba Satellite A105 had a similar problem where it would turn on and then turn off a few seconds later, I've worked on a few of them and couldn't fix it. Though I must say it sounds like your video card may be the problem here, you might be able to order a new one or take it in and have a technician fix it or at least get the data off of your hard drive. You might have to buy a new laptop. Toshiba makes a good laptop when they do unfortunately they also make some really bad laptops as well. So far my Satellite A135 hasn't had any problems so if you decide to go with Toshiba again I would suggest one of these.

Sounds like hard drive trouble, maybe. Are you sure you didn't get any Windex into the keyboard, though? It could be that some of it got onto the motherboard. But whenever I've gotten a black screen trying to start up to Windows, it's been the hard drive--either a bad hard drive or viruses. If you have Windows recovery CDs, you might want to pull those out and use those to see what kind of possible fixes they offer. Some of those recovery CDs will try to repair problems, let you do system restore or scan the hard drive for errors.

do you even get a white cursor bar ? or completely black. i know you said black but sometimes people dont think to say the white bar.i wish i knew the answer . the only thing i have heard is that there has been a problem with Toshiba laptops with the screen going black and that the problem is an adjustment in the BIOS menu. i told one person on here that i had seen the question asked before on YA ,it was a problem in BIOS, and to look it up on here and Toshiba. she responded by saying thx and she turned hibernate off

sounds like a hardware problem.

This might be a burned out component. not a nice things to happen but they do happen now and again.

Sounds like processor or memory to me.

you will ahve to have it lokoed at to found out.

Sorry for the bad news.
