Joey Styles' latest column has him taking aim and JBL and his broadcasting abilities, or lack thereof. Styles wrote: "Just when I thought nobody could butcher color commentary worse than Ernest "The Cat" Miller did years ago, along came JBL, tempting me to drive my pencil into my own ears at every WWE pay-per-view." He also added: "JBL spent more time talking about himself in his Foghorn Leghorn voice than he did talking about the matches he was supposed to be calling. While I have no doubt that JBL will one day be inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame as the great in-ring superstar he is, the self-professed Wall Street wizard will not be joining Gene Okerlund and Jim Ross in the announcer's wing." Styles closes his column with this parting shot: "I wish JBL the best in his future endeavors if only so I never have to suffer through him calling another match."
do you agree with that?

JBL was an amazingly good colour guy. In the beginning I remember being irritated about how much he put himself over, but over time he seemed to tone it down a lot, while taking the putting-guys-over into overdrive.

No, I think JBL was a great commentator.Even though he was a heel, he was honest. He's the only heel commentator who'd say bad things about other heels (Miz especially) and good things about certain faces, even though he'd say he didn't like them kissing up to fans. I didn't think he'd be as good as he was, but he proved me wrong.

Joey Styles is right about JBL.
When JBL is good, he is decent, but not great as a color commentator. You can hear when he talks about the matches that he is OK at doing that. However, JBL is not good with his commentary when he clashes with Michael Cole. He does not speak very well against him, and he sounds agitated to be a commentator, showing little respect in tone towards Cole.
JBL as a commentator, I believe, is overrated. It is mostly his gimmick that people like.

I think JBL was the best color guy for a long time (Since Lawler was a heel and Jesse "The Body" Ventura was around).
Anyway I think what Joey Styles said is just leading up to something that will happen at a PPV. Maybe something at the Royal Rumble.

jbl was really great and he made smackdowns commentating good even with the most annoying play by play announcer ever cole. Cole is probabally the biggest mark ever like for example chavo does the eddie taunt and he says its a disgrace to the guerrero name but when rey does it he says its a tribute to his old friend i mean come on
