Queen!
They're famous for their live shows, and Freddie is called the greatest frontman of all time!

Oh, boy, I need to post a link? But there are so many! They played like....almost 700 concerts, I think?

Here's Part 1/14 of their most famous concert, although not their wildest:

In part 12, at 2:53, you can see the sweat evaporating off of Freddie's forehead. It looks like smoke coming out of his head!

You can't argue their greatness! The crowds are going insane for them! At their Live AID concert, which is also on Youtube, you can see 140,000 people doing the hand claps and thrusting their fists in the air along to Radio Ga Ga. Who could get that many people to simultaneously do that nowadays?

AC/DC by far the best live band! KISS is a great runner up!

Plenty of AC/DC & Kiss on YouTube. All of those links don't do it justice compared to sitting in their live audience. Meaning, if you want to feel the loud explosions ripple through your body everytime they blow the cannons or shoot pyrotechnics, sitting in front of the computer just doesn't give you the full feel of it. You can literally smell the gun powder! If you have never heard "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You" live, you're missing something special! They really mean a 21 gun salute!!!

The best-ever live band is The Who. No band can surpass the raw energy the Who would create in their shows. They would be so into it, and don't forget, at the end of each show Townshend would smash his guitar and Moon would smash up his drums. Look at any live video on youtube (I suggest The Who on the Smothers' Brothers Comedy Hour, and you can see the "explosiveness" of their shows.)

It depends if you mean sounding best or just putting on the best show.

If you think about it this way, the Beatles sounded outstanding live for having none of the modern technology we have today that allows the band to hear themselves playing. On top of all of the screaming girls, I've never seen a video of them messing up live, even on the vocal harmonies.

Modern bands definitely put on the best shows though. Some of my favorites:
The Starting Line

Green Day

Yellowcard

A lot of good pop-punks bands with good shows.

I have to agree with "I'm w/ stupid"

I have seen literally hundreds of concerts...both smaller bands in small venues and large bands in arenas.

The performers have ranged from Willie Nelson to The Violent Femmes to The Clash to the White Stripes to Elton John to Gnarls Barkley to soloists like John Lee Hooker and Elvis Costello..

Muse blew them all out of the water as far as I am concerned.

Queen, when Freddie Mercury was still alive. Hands down the best, most professional shows I've ever seen. They knew how to include the audience, making them feel like a part of the show rather than just observers.
