Check to see if you have WiMAX in your area. If it is being offered then you just need the appropriate adapter card. Otherwise you need to get wifi. In this case contact you local ISP (cable/satellite) company. They will give you a modem (hopefully a wireless one). Place the appropriate adapter into your computer, configure and your done. No wires.

I have internet without a landline. It can also go through your cable. Call your cable company and ask. I'm in the US so giving you companies would be useless.

There are many british ISP's with great deals, such as Sky, BT, Orange, AOL and Virgin Media. Some offer DSL connections (landline) and some Cable (fiberoptics).
From my experience, the cable companies (Virgin Media) have been a better deals, as they are usually quite affordable and can usually offer very fast speeds (I hear Virgin offer 20Mb/s in some areas).
Try visiting http://www.virginmedia.com and look at the deals they have to offer for you. Good luck.

Assuming you are rural and/or cable ip service is not available, there are a bunch of sat providers available although the can be costly.

If you're in a metro area there's always good ol' 802.11 wireless.

Your best options are probably either a cable TV connections, or a satellite link. I'm in the US, so I can't tell you company names. Ask your friends how they connect.
