O own a retail business in NJ. Because of the mortgage markets, competition, and other things, we have experienced a drastic loss in our customers. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get them back?

Well I used to manage in retail and when we would have customer loss I would always try to call the customers and let them know that if they come in and bring a friend that has not been in, in a while that I would give them 50% off there total purchase..That usually brought most of them back..Also I would let them know we just did a major markdown on the store and they need to come in and see...
Well also had an Email sent out monthly to customers along with a coupon attached to the email

Good Luck

Sales and communication. Send out flyers with coupons, have contests and raffles for some of the things in the store.

Have customers fill out forms for the raffles and/or contests, that way you have their names and addresses to communicate with them and keep them abreast of upcoming events. Email is always the least expensive way to advertise. Just be sure there is a box to check for privacy, and promise not to sell their private information.

Right now, you've got to get those people back into your store, offer as many sales as possible. Send out communications right away and invite them back, offer them an additional 5 or 10 percent to make them feel special.

Have a new grand opening, do something to the store to spice it up, move some stuff around, rearrange your products, get a few new products to stock, advertise it like crazy and offer a grand opening sale, send out flyers, put out circulars to advertise.

Good luck!

Make sure you are giving the customers you do have the best service they could ever find, anywhere.

Advertise

Give folks something they cant get elsewhere

Find out why they dont need you anymore and adapt

Offer them something they didnt know they needed...(time for your 6 month cleaning/inspection/tune-up.)

Thats 5...

You could do a points system...like a loyalty card thing and reward people free stuff or discount when they get enough points.

Exclusive Club Member Events!! Discounts?
