This is a very common problem with chinese quads.

I imagine the only thing you can do for the current cdi box is give it a funeral. Before you install the replacement box, you need to do some testing to figure out why the old one went up in smoke. You don't want to fry the replacement one. The cdi's seem to be pretty darn reliable and failure it rare.

First of all, were you hooking up the battery cables when it went poof? If so, you may have had the leads reversed. Other things to look for would be bad grounds on the box and grounded circuits and corroded connectors or shorted wires elsewhere in the harness if it isn't toast also.
