Oh you should be grateful you are not disabled, that you have a roof over your head, that you can read, etc.

I am asking this as a serious question. why should I be grateful. Yes, of course there are people who are worse off than me but why does that mean the fact I am not in that position make me happy. There are people who point at me and say 'at least you are not like that'.

what is the logic of this?

Being grateful is merely an acknowledgement that you have the things that make your life better, that you have been in some ways blessed and are not in a position where life everyday is a struggle just to eat.

Say you get caught in a speed trap at 25 mph over, but the officer lets you off with a seat belt ticket that won't mess up your MVR. You did nothing to earn this break, it was a gift extended to you. Do you not feel a bit of gratitude to the officer and give a heartfelt "thank you"? Those that point out the need for a little gratitude are just trying to remind you that sometimes we need to appreciate those things that come our way. Not doing so can make you isolated from others, and bitter thinking that no one ever gives you a break or cares, that you are all alone in the cold, cruel, world.

Perhaps you should try doing without things to learn to appreciate them.

Happy and grateful are two different things. You really should think about what it would be like to not have a computer to type on in a room that is heated with your MTV on in the back ground. Seriously why don't you volunteer at a homeless shelter or in a cancer ward and see how grateful those people are for what little health or possessions they have. Then you will understand the concept of being grateful for the things in YOUR life.

I don't walk around everyday being grateful for everything. I don't think about it. Till now. So since you brought it up, yes I have it better than most people on the planet. Counting third world countries, homeless people etc.
I'm not rich, but I'm not poor either. We have to save for things we want like HDTV, or a new computer. I think it makes it more fun when you get them. Just calling and setting up a new car, or home entertainment package would be boring. I would enjoy having it, but not getting it.
Know what I mean?
Tell ya what. Go live on the street for a week. Or hell, just one night. Maybe you will be grateful then.
If that doesn't work, and this one will get me allot of thumbs down, but, think about this. If I put a .45 to your forehead, would you be grateful if I didn't shoot you?
Just wondering.
HAPPY NEW YEAR

Grateful, thankful.....yeah.... well, in order to feel that gratefulness, one has to have a sense that something is better than it could have been. That's a hard one, because, if you have not experienced hardship or related to hardship in other people's lives, you really have no conscienable way to feel this gratefulness. I would say you would need to experience some of this hardship, to taste it ...and then you may find yourself naturally feeling grateful for your life's circumstances.

Now from a Creation sense, from a concept of your being ...existing, that's another story. Because you are a collection of dust and moisture originated from a sperm and an egg, processed through breeding of a species, whose particulate matter came from dust and moisture from dust and heat exploded from an imagination that wanted to escape certainty or pure knowledge. You see pure knowledge is BORING! I mean, what is there if you know everything? That is how we were before creation began!

Is your life BORING? Do you know everything? I highly doubt that you or any material creature does! Therefore, you should be grateful for the entertainment of uncertainty that is you, that Created you and I and all that is before you.

Healing be unto you and yours and me and mine
In Forgive Affirmed Spirit

What a sad question, would i want the world to know i felt the way you do? i doubt it, ok perhaps your right to a certain point, then perhaps you haven't lost enough to realize the
validity in the implication of your attitude, i hope you never do, but in the event you do, being that your such a secure man and probably happy with your self, then you would be the least of my worrie's for if nothing else, i would be imencly
grateful for your enlightenment, it has served to make me
more grateful than ever, not only of who i am, but of everything i have in this life . . .

Oh, you may desire to keep a diary/mag, my costly! i've got stored one on the grounds that my early 20s and that i'm now in my top 40s, and that's a exhilaration to return on occasion and study stuff -- it brings the innovations back lots greater vividly than photos in a image album can. As for those differences you have observed, you will particularly slowly exchange for the time of your existence. pursuits with shift, tastes will exchange, and pals will come and pass. that's a sprint unnerving at circumstances, yet finally it extremely is for the suitable -- we would stagnate if we purely stayed the comparable from 365 days-to-365 days.

How about this. You could be worse off than you are. I count myself lucky when I came home from Viet Nam. The only wound I got was a broken finger from a fall I took. There are all sorts of things to be grateful for.One of them is your life.It could be worse but its not and it could be better but its not. At one time I thought I was the best drummer in the world. Then along came buddy rich and I had to step back a few beats.Do you understand where I am going with this? I hope you find that there is more to living than computers and video games. Yes , I still practice drumming while playing video games on my computer. It gives me something to do.

I was like that, exactly like that. Then I got sick, really sick I had an aneurysm in my brain near the brain stem. They could not operate. I prayed and the aneurysm went away. I still have terrible headaches and go into convulsions a couple times a week. The vomiting and distorted vision is the biggest nuisance. Now I am great full . Great full for the few days a month where I don't have a headache. Great full if I go all day without vomiting. Great full that I am still here for my children. Be careful what you wish for God is listening. Rent the movie the secret and you'll see that negative energy will bring you down. Be thankful and great full or you may like me become forced into being thank full and great full.

There is a saying, " There but for the grace of God go I " meaning the only reason you weren't born with a disability was because God made you like that.
You will never be grateful until something is taken away from you.

You will only learn to be grateful for every breath you take each morning you wake up when something serious happens to you. My brother in law has been bed-ridden for over 6 months now with cancer and he now says that he wishes that he was grateful for things in life whereapon he used to just take advantage of things. So you see, that is the only time people actually miss what they were not grateful for, You will learn in time.
