Isnt it very tense atmosphere for a place that is supposed to be laid back?

There are lots of dodgy people that will try to take advantage of you when you are high. I have never seen so many agressive dealers and pimps, ripoffs, muggings and people thrown into the canals!

I am getting a bit sick and tired of people who have absolutly no idea of what its like being in Amsterdam.
Also the judge from being there a short time and from what others experience.
When one is in the inner city its very tourist like. Obviously people are trying to make money out of
everything and even perhaps anyone who is weak and has no brains.
Just dont get high. Thats is not the only thing Amsterdam is good for.

Dam during the day especially in the summer is one of the most laid back cities in europe, but come night time the place can change on it's head especially during the early hours.Seedy is the word that comes to mind.

Been there 5 times. Never saw anyone being pushed into canals. Think it to be Good Vibe city.

That's too bad, but to be honest it doesn't surprise me.

I would recommend the city of Groningen as a short break destination, it's in the North-East of the country and has everything Amsterdam has, but a much friendlier vibe to it.

it used to have a great atmosphere, unfortunately there are now a lot of turks, afghans etc who have moved there and you don't want to mix with. lived in holland for 9 mnths and saw a difference even in that short space of time. majority of violence/crime is not a result of the dutchman.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that!
I felt very uncomfortable when I was there... lots of shady characters milling around etc. I shan't bother going back.
And no, I wasn't under the influence of anything! Perhaps I should have been! lol

That's the state that constant abuse of dope gets their brains in. Unless you're into the s**t, visit somewhere more normal.
