Probably because your pad is absorbing slower than you are flowing. Try changing you pad more often, or buying super absorbant for those heavier days. Longer ones work better when you are laying down.

I'm going to assume that it only happens when you're laying down. Try to change a different brand of pad, that might help.

I would recommend using a pad. Try to soak it up. Blood is a liquid and it flows in that direction.

because they way your vagina opening and anal opening were created, they sit one infront of the other and its the angle you sit that makes the blood run like that. i used to wonder about this too until i discovered how close my wholes are

well if your sitting or moving around..i don't think that it'll run to your butt..but if youre sleeping...sideways helps lot if you're wearing pads.

is it on the first day . If it is on the day when you have heavy flow , it can be due to sanitary pad. Just spelling on the butt.Don't worry it is normal.
