Well, last week I had to write a story for school, and I was mad about it at first, but I actually got pretty into it. I got an A+ on it and I kind of want to write another. Just for kicks.
The story I'm writing is basically just Chick Lit stuff, and the basic outline is that a 16-yr-old girl (still recovering from a recent relationship that ended very badly) goes to spend the summer with her father in her old hometown (her parents are divorced) and reconnects with a boy who was once her best friend but they lost touch years ago. Along with many other unpredictable things that happen that summer, she ends up falling in love with him.
Stupid... I know... but remember, it's just for kicks. And I thought it might be funny to save it and then when I'm older I'll read it and either be like "Haha, this is actually pretty good," or, "Haha, wow this sucks." =)
Does anyone have any ideas for a setting (state/area-wise)? I'd like the story to take place on a small(ish) town near a beach...

wow, thanks guys!! i love the Bar Harbor, Maine idea. I'm thinking that or maybe a small island off the coast of Maine.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated =)

oh my, how much this reminds me of my self when I was your age and the hours I spent in my room just writing stories ( mostly scary ones) . I saved all my writings for years and years that I wrote during creative writing/journalism classes. I even won a few contests for best entry at the time--sigh-- those were the days but now, I don't do much writing any more at all.
Your story setting opens at your father's house in the small town where you grew up . I think at some point in the story you may want to show how you got to that point, what happened that you ended up in the small town?
since the parents are divorced maybe you could weave in how your character was living with the mother in another town, perhaps a bigger city, until something happened which forced the girl to go to the small town and live with her father. She hasn't been there for many years , the town has changed since the girl lived there. Describe her feelings, thoughts, and emotions . Does she get along well with her father? How does she meet up again with the other boy after all these years? Perhaps at a beach party on spring break? The skies the limit.

I happen to like the Idea.. Do not do anything cliche or typical, like having the setting in Cali... do like VA beach. So in the story.. it can have a little bit of romance, her and the guy walking on the beach, and possibly experiencing their first kiss with one another... just a thought!!
