As one myself, the thing that REALLY gets my goat is the assumption that all single mothers are such by choice. A single parent may have been divorced or widowed, or left alone for some other reason. The stereotypes that seem to stick are the ones that say single mum's are all 16 and hoping for a council flat!!! Aaaarrrggghhhh it makes me really cross!!!

By the way Happy New Year!

Here are the stereotypes...

70% of them file for divorce. Either they are bad at picking the right mate or they all have an excuse for reasons why. Or 70% of the men are cheating.

It's always after at least 2 kids (in the states), so is it because they got what they wanted and now they don't want to deal with having to compromise with a partner?

They think it's ok to raise kids alone, when in reality having a father figure is crucial for both boys and girls. It keeps girls off the stripper pole and boys out of jail, if you know what I mean.

These are just generalizations of course.

Stereotypes have changed over the years. You are not alone and the public outcry of yesterday is over. Be a good parent to the child, that is what society wants now. Society doesn't want to ridicule you, they want you to raise a responsible kid.Thay want you to be responsible for the child and to act responsible. Don't worry about our opinion, just raise thechild the best you can and keep your head up at all times.

It's a fact of life. Very common today. Back in the 70's-- a little unusual.
