So instead of letting the dream stay on auto pilot (as it would if you didn't know you were actually dreaming), you try to change and mix up whatever is happening in the dream?

Absolutely! It is so fun!
I believe it's called Lucid Dreaming.
When I dream (if its good) I usually make the best of it and try to have fun and I go with the flow. I usually don't alter anything but if I do, it's something you can't do in real life. It's like living an alternate reality. Very awesome phenomenon.

I love it when that happens, though it only comes very rarely for me. I think it's like the beginning stages of Lucid Dreaming, which is pretty interesting. Supposedly you can master it through discipline and practice... (ever see the last couple scenes in Vanilla Sky? Real nice stuff!)

yes. sometimes, I'll be dreaming something, and my conscious mind kicks in asking questions like "where are you really?" then I can remember that I'm actually asleep in bed. sometimes I can change the "direction", but not a lot. and I have many repetitive dreams. I mean a lot of them.

I've had dreams that were so good I was mad when I woke up and tried to make myself go back to sleep so I could continue it.
