I know where the phrase "THE WHOLE NINE YARDS" originated from.

During the first world war the automatic machine guns were belt driven - that is the bullets were srung on a belt and fed into the gun. The length of these belts were 9 yerds - so to give someone the whole nine yards is to give them a full belt of bullets. - am I sad or what?
