It's a bit like the "N" word - is it THEM or is it the PC brigade who are the most upset? I don't know any West Indians who are upset by the N word and I don't know any Pakistanis who call themselves anything BUT that, so it MUST be down to the PC brig ! ! !

I wouldn't honestly say I am offended by it as I just find it kind of tacky. It seems like a very strong way to make someone sound less educated. It's so common now it doesn't really surprise me anymore but sometimes it's just like, why was that necessary?

the world is f*cked and the tiny minds of most people, only serve to make it worse.
most folk cant distinguish between asians and call them names, 'paki' being the one they use most.
indians obviously don't like being called paki because they are not.
if you are a brit and everyone called you froggie, would you get cheesed off with it? i bet you would.
the tone of your voice and the context with which we use words is what causes insults. people have no savvy at all these days and cannot seem to think outside 'the box'.
muslims are from many many countries, some asian, some black and some white and/or eurasian. we shouldn't brand people with words untill we know them personally. a tosspot will always be a tosspot whatever religion or country he comes from. but untill you know someone personally, you wouldnt call them a tosspot. so i reckon the hatred is coming from those that jump to conclusions without putting their brain in gear.
i didnt explain that very well, i hope it makes sense
cheers

(I'm white English myself) Children often get it right when we get it wrong. I remember a small child in a playground coming to me telling me that another boy was calling him a 'Paki', he then went to sit on a step and cried, the offending boy asked me why his 'friend' was crying, I told him that he was upset by what he'd been called. The offender looked thoughtful, then without my having to tell him what to do, went up to the boy and told him that he was sorry.
It hadn't dawned on the offender (who was a nice boy) that his comment had hurt his friend, he grew in my opinion of him when he put things right and never used that word again.
If somebody is offended by something, they don't really need a reason, it can be down to the tone of voice and other things, I just wouldn't like to hurt a person for no good reason.

Agreed all countries have nicknames, here are just a few:

British are Brits, Australians are Auzzies, Polish are Pols, Americans are Yanks, Irish are Paddies, Spaniards are Spics...and then the other one they get offended by is the short name for Nigeria.

I dont think pakistanis get offended by Paki I mean everyone in Pakistan calls themselves Paki why would they mind and Pakistanis arent that dumb that they would complain on anything you call them, its all on how did you call them that. If it was in a racist way or a making fun type of way then they have all rights to get offended as i think of it.

The pakistani friends i have are not offended by it,when we were on night runs up north ,we used to get into the services on the return run and when BERNARD MANNING came in ,AS HE OFTEN DID AFTER A GIG,they used to shout --"TELL US SOME PAKI JOKES BERNARD" and we used to be in hysterics as he rolled jokes out one after the other. The one thing about Bernard was ,he treated everyone the same, certainly no racist, and the pakistanis understood that.He did a hell of a lot for charity and my pakistani friends loved him.As he said to us ,often,"you have to be able to laugh at yourself before, you can live with anyone else".RIP.

It's not a parallel situation at all, Brits are quite proud of being Brits whereas Paki is a term of racist abuse. Pikie in the UK and Ireland is another one which I am ashamed to see has been used in quite serious posts.
If we're going to all live together peacefully we have to be sensitive to these things even if they seem trivial in the short term. Lots of us don't like to be stereotyped anyway regardless of racial issues, how many of us Brits who have to wear glasses some of the time are happy with 'four eyes' for instance?

So true, those people are trouble makers and will root up trouble from anything.

My God, could you be more ignorant? I think you are taking the piss. The word 'paki' is used by moronic bellends and is an insult, aimed at anyone whose skin is neither 'white' nor 'black'. It is the derogatory way in which the word is used that upsets people.

Nope. They don't get offended.

"Paki" means, "sacred":-) There is No need to be offended with this word. See, the Pakis have answered it themselves, to clear your confusion - Hope they helped?
Oh and every human can be hypersensitive. (dont blame mulims only) Its very natural and obvious, It can be you, it can be me, it can be anyone. right? right!:D

Have a good day.
