No, not at all, I wouldn't recommend the album but just buy Smile and LDN off iTunes. They are the only two good songs on the album.

Is she still planning on retiring after this one? Or was that just something she put out there last year, and then backed away from? Well, anyway, Lily Allen seems tame next to Winehouse anymore... and there has been a ton of competition for her retro-pop crown in only 2 years. Winehouse, Duffy, Adele, among others.... Winehouse was around long before Allen.... but Allen paved the road for her popularity. For the most part - the album is pretty disposable and immediately forgettable, but that's pop. That's what pop does... so it seems harsh to hold that quality against it. I felt Katy Perry was trying (and failing) to make an attempt at the same sort of wit tied with blunt sexual references that Lily Allen balanced on her debut. Perry's problem was that she forgot the wit (for the most part). But it seems kind of tired.... how many songs about giving head do we really need? It's nice to see her experiment here and move on, letting all the pretenders have their way with the sound that Allen seemingly defined - moving on - been there done that. She seems like she's out to prove herself, and she does a decent job with a good, but flawed release. The social commentary isn't going to be for everyone (I agree with her most of the time - which makes me kind of cringe), and neither are the party girl anthems, but there's clearly an audience for this... I'm probably just not it.

I don't know why people deliberate over whether buying an album is worth it or not. Just live and let live. It's a fantastic pop album; people shouldn't come out with this crap just because they disapprove of her (what, exactly, has she done wrong again?). It's witty and doesn't rely on crude lyrics to get your attention. It reminded me of what a lot of British bands were doing in the 90s, singing about vain optimism in spite of what you're faced with. But I suppose morose has become so chic these days and optimism has been eclipsed by unrefined, meaningless irony and 'randomness'. Just buy it, it's a fantastic little record with a decent sense of direction; unwavering.
