The biggest argument is how do you define offensive?!

A civilised society. One based upon the foundationstone of morality. Media. The arbiters of information between Governments and the people. In this age the media has equal if not greater power than the government. It can with negative reporting destabilise an admministration, with this in mind, governments pander to the beast that is the media rather than lead or being its guiding force.
Governments are still relatively answerable for the misdeeds or inactions, the media isnt. The media has no agenda or purpose other than its claims to be the adjudicators of gov and public opinion. This forum knows that on any topic there is a vast range of opinions, from one extreme to the other. So what criteria is applied as to which event, which opinion, which person, which political group amongst the many millions seeking publicity or exposure, are given a platform or centre stage.

Armaggedon, hells fiery ocean rages as the beast and the dragon wage war for dominance of power....

The people, the media, government and the rabble are intrinsically all self serving, and unfaithful, deservedly so.

Once the Church Led the country, the churches power was taken by the monarchy, the monarchy were then downsized to no more than figure heads os state by the people government who disilusioned decided to rule themselves. Politicians became so partisan, indulgent and pandering to a people to endear themselves regardless of injury to state interest. The bankers then stripped the Politicos of their power and themselves decide upon which puppet will lead the country.

The latest credit crunch is an assault led by themedia and the government on the bankers and their industry in an attempt to reduce their standing and break their hold.

{Eeri drum roll......to beethovens death at the door} the war ensues...

May Love Morality Peace Honour and the Honourable always win. Amen.

A person could write an entire book in answer to your question. Too many arguments on either side to answer in this brief forum. As others have said, first you must define "offensive". What may be offensive to me, may not offend others, and vice versa. For example, I'm offended by "beauty pagents", but a lot of other people are not. A lot of people are offended by foul language. I am not. Where do you draw the line? Whose guidelines and definitions of "offensive" do we follow?

Everything is offensive to someone, so you can't ban offensive matrial unless you are going to switch off the media.

It may be more important that people aren't forced or tricked into being offended, but it has to be down to the individual to control what they see -- only they know what they offend by!

Nothing offends me - so don't restrict my choice. Stuff I don't like just lowers my oppinion of the people who created it.

Too big an issue, there are too many ways in which people can be offended. My elderly mother gets embarrassed when ladies products are shown on TV (a different generation who did not discuss such things) A friend of mine gets offended when homosexuality is shown or reported. As for me......live and let live, different strokes for different folks.

If its your definition of offensive it may not be someone elses, you have the option of turning off the radio/tv and or turning the page over.
