Sunday, Dec.30: The latest CNN coverage shows a new poll in Iowa with Romney now leading over Huckabee. Romney has been advertising heavily with a contrast ad which points out Huckabee's growth of government, soft stance on immigration in favor of college grants to illegal aliens, and pardoning of over 1000 convicted felons including 12 murderers. Huckabee is now taking a more aggressive stance, calling out Romney by name and saying "he has nothing to stand on". But Huckabee will not refute any of the facts in the Romney contrast ads.

Why not?

Might it be that the Romney ads contain accurate information and the facts speak for themselves?

Is Huckabee just now getting desperate and lashing back with whatever he can to try to counter perceptions of key points in his former performance as Governor of Arkansas?

How do you refute fact? I live in Arkansas and huckabee betrayed us by raising taxes, fighting a bill that would require people to present id when voting and getting state $, he is for amnesy, is for rewarding illegals and their children with instate tuition and state $ for college(he even said that to do less was racist) and has a soft stance on crime and vicious criminals.

I think the reason he is focusing on religion is to get the spotlight away from his liberal record.

He won't refute the facts because they're true. All Huckabee and McCain can do is try and attack the messenger because the message is accurate. If Romney has an ad saying that Huckabee was opposed to requiring proof of citizenship in order to get a drivers license, Huckabee will respond by saying Romney has spent a lot of money on ads. If Romney has an ad saying McCain voted against the tax cuts twice and cosponsored a bill costing taxpayers billions and providing amnesty to all illegals, McCain responds by saying Romney is scared of him.

On the other hand, if Romney is attacked, he will explain why the attack is wrong and what his record actually is. I think anyone who sees this should realize that Romney is right here and Huckabee and McCain are afraid that voters will find out what they really think.

I don't know about that, but I do know I've decided to change my vote. I'm not voting for Huckabee I'm voting for Romney. I like Huckabee tremendously, however I think he would be to much like Bush when it comes to spending.

Mike Huckabee has never had to seriously campaign this year, until now. He's trailed in the polls ever since the first debate, when Chris Matthews asked if there were any candidates who didn't believe in evolution. When you're that far down the pecking order, no one gives you a second thought.

When you're out in front, though, as Huckabee himself pointed out, they start shooting at you. That's when the pressure's on, and we find out just how much heat a candidate can take before he ducks out of the kitchen. Welcome to "frontrunner status", Governor.
