I've been living in germany with my g/f for a few months and flew home for xmas. my g/f wasn't sure of where she would be on new years eve so i booked my flight back to germany on new years day. when it transpired she would actually be staying at home, it was too late for me to change my flight to be with her on new yrs eve and it was too expensive (£80ish) to get a new flight. BUT, then I got £100 b'day (which is today!!) money. My g/f was so upset that she couldn't be with me and that i was alone on my b'day and new years, so i decided to spend £80 of my b'day money on the flight. another advantage of this is that now i have an extra day to settle before starting work again on the 2nd Jan. But i feel stupid for using up money given to me as a present on this, esp as I had another flight booked for THE NEXT DAY! Cld someone pls tell me i'm not a total idiot, maybe just a partial one? thanks a lot!! At least now I won't be alone on new year right????

No you are not an idiot, you spent the money on something that made you happy so in that sense you did the best you could.

i would spend that to be with my gf an extra day. i spent £10 to see her 1 hour earlier the other day. i could have waited for the next train (1 hour), but i got a taxi instead. the walk from the station would have been the same as the taxi drive.

if u average that out, i would have spent £240 to see her a day early. :D be happy, love is worth any amount of money, even if its ridiculous when you think about it logically.

im more of a fool than u

yer an odd one then aren't you.

OK, here's how it works;

If you do/did something and it makes you feel like an idiot, then you probably are one.

If however you do/did something and it made you feel good...then you're probably not an idiot.

Soooooooooo, the secret is to do what you think will make you or someone you care about happy, and forget about the expense. And then you won't be, or feel like an idiot.

See how easy that is?!

You are in love, and when you are in love some of your actions have no rational explanation. Just enjoy the time together. You will always get more money, and what good is money if you cannot use it for things that give you pleasure?

happy birthday first of all.... (and what the hell are you doing on yahoo answers on your birthday? lol?)
anyway i think it is a very sweet thing you did.... and i hope she appreciates it.... the money you got given for your birthday was for you to spend on whatever you want... whatever makes you happy no? so if this makes you happy.... just GO... forget about it .... don't think so deeply into feeling bad or stupid or whatever... enjoy your time with your girlfriend and have a happy new year with her too :D
good luck

I think I would have waited and enjoyed the money, it's only another day after all and new years often dull. But you're in love and that makes you slightly crazy!

You're not an idiot. I'd trade money to be with a loved one any day of the week.

Don't sweat it... your money was given to you on your birthday to treat yourself to something nice. Chances are you will enjoy her company so it wasn't a waste at all.

If happiness makes you an idiot, then your a complete buffoon. :)
