Your sentencing is good, with perhaps a little more punctuation than is necessary. It's very personal, and you have not made any errors.

A student who does not take his or her education seriously indeed deserve to be expelled; in view of this, I (wisely) decided to sturdy harder on my courses even though time was not on my side.
