The Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman, they are a trilogy, the first one is called Northern Lights and its the one in the Cinema known as The Golden Compass. They are brilliant and addictive reading with witches, romance, kidnapping, gypsys and even talking polar bears.

Not sure exactly what age range you mean by "young adults" but for teenagers I would recommend series by Philip Pullman and Susan Cooper, both of whom have had films based on their books in the last year.
Pullman: Northern Lights; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass
Cooper: Over Sea Under Stone; The Dark Is Rising; Greenwitch; The Grey King; Silver On The Tree
If you liked Howl's Moving Castle, you would probably enjoy other stuff by Diana Wynne-Jones, even though most of it doesn't include witches and wizards. I would also recommend anything by Alan Garner.

Cry of the Icemark
Blade of Fire
Both are written by Stuart Hill
These books are simply amazing!! They are fantasy novels, involve a little romance, and withces/wizards. They are simply stunning!! I could not put these books down they were so good. They both are very well written, have an intriguing plot, and very interesting characters.
CRY OF THE ICEMARK:
This book is about a 14 year old girl named Thirrin Freer Strong-In-The-Arm-Lindenshield, Wildcat of the North. She lives in a small, remote kingdom in the north called the Icemark. The Polypontian empire comes from the south, believes only in science (not magic) and is planning to invade the small kingdom. With Thirrin's father killed, she must find allies in Werewolves, Vampires, Ghosts, and Giant Talking Snow Leopards, and a young wizard named Oskan. But can they defeat the larger threat??
I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna tell you information about Blade of Fire, because if I do, it spoils some of what happens in COTI. So, you should read COTI first!!

Try Andre Norton's Witch World series. The original series was a long time ago and since then she and others have added lots of extra short stories and fill in novels so there is plenty to read. Another old time series you will love are the Darkover books by Marion Zimmer Bradley. She too has shared her universe with other writers so there is a broad body of work there too.
Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series is my favourite but all her books are seriously good fantasies and although intended for adults are mostly straightforward action/adventure so you should have no problems with them.
Tamora Pierce writes good young adult fantasies which I have found very enjoyable particularly the Alanna series.

Scott Westerfeld is a great YA author. Try out his "Midnighters" trilogy. Lots of fantasy in that. His "Uglies" trilogy is great too, but not so much fantasy as futuristic. Still excellent books.
I also loved "A Great and Terrible Beauty" by Libba Bray, and it's sequel "Rebel Angels" about a group of teenage girls who discover witch-like powers. The third one, "The Sweet Far Thing" just came out this week.
And the "Twilight" trilogy by Stephanie Meyer is good too, but more about vampires than witches and wizards. But lots of romance and a captivating story.

Traci Harding - Definitely good! Mystique Trilogy and Ancient Future Trilogy (same author; different characters/storylines)
Kate Elliott's Crown of Stars series is pretty good, that's a set of 7 books - Kings Dragon is the first one.
Christopher Paolini's Eragon and Eldest (and the forthcoming Empire) are worth trying
Fiona McKintosh's The Quickening Trilogy is also very good.
If you haven't read them already, read the Harry Potter series.

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:
http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com
Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Readers' Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.
"A Spell for Chameleon" has the most modern-style romance.
I hope this helps.
