how can anyone say a tiger has any chance?
adult elephants have no natural predators, a tiger would not stanjd a chance in hell. Not even a small chance, NONE.
Elephants actively kill lions when they get a chance. When elephants are around entire prides of lions give them room. a lone toger would be instaly killed. There isnt even a question about it

In my opinion, based on shows I've seen and books I've read on predatory mammals, I would say it is unlikely that a tiger could take down an elephant. Now, I'm not sayng that it isn't possible. Depending on the situation, pretty much anything is possible. However, you have to look at the cat's natural hunting instinct. A tiger, unlike a lion, does not go for the throat of its prey right off the bat. It first attacks the spinal cord just at the nape of the prey's neck. The lion attacks the throat first, collapsing the esophagus and suffocating it's prey. An elephants hide is actually fairly thick, not like a rhino's or hippo's, but somewhat like a wild hog's. It's not impenetrable, but it would be tough to get a clear bite on the spinal cord. Second, although the tiger is technically the biggest cat in the world (the siberian tiger 3.5feet to shoulder, 9-12 length, 400-650lbs.) it is dwarfed by an adult elephant(asian elephant 8-10 ft. tall, up to 11,000lbs, 18-21 ft. length). They are by far much more dangerous than any predatory mammal. If anything a calf is susceptible to a lone tiger, but even that is a toss-up. Given the situation i believe that an adult, healthy elephant wins the confrontation with an adult tiger 99 out of 100 times.

When the calm elephant is attacked, it won't be calm anymore. It too will be filled with rage, even more than the tiger. The tiger's rage is a result of hunger. but the elephant's rage is to keep from being killed. The tiger could get another meal. But the elephant has to win in order to live.

Well it depends on the moves the tiger come strikes at the neck and sinks there teeth in the elephant's neck. Or The elephant could step tiger. So it all depends but that would be horrible.

No - the aggressor 'tiger' wouldn't win. especially due to the rage of the tiger clouding his judgement.
