I am unfortunatley ignorant of the proper name of the knobs on some VGA cables, but here is a picture of what I am referring to: http://www.htcustomcables.com/images/vga_krystal.jpg

So far as I know they help reduce interference with the cable and I am not sure if it is siginficant enough to go out of my way to get a cable with them (currently I can only find a $24.99 cable [2 metres] without them, and a $49.99 cable with [6 metres]).

A few years ago they did make a difference but standards have increased and the "nobby things" (I think that's a good a name as any) are a little superfluous these days ... of course it does depend on the age of your monitor

The longer your cable is, the more important this will be to have.
