(29075) 1950 DA is a near Earth asteroid. It is notable for having the highest known probability of impacting Earth, according to the Palermo Technical Impact Hazard Scale.
Predicted to pass very close to or collide with the Earth in the year 2880. If this collision were to happen, the energy released by a collision with (29075) 1950 DA would cause an extinction event which would destroy most life on the planet. However, humanity has over 800 years to refine its estimates of the orbit of (29075) 1950 DA, and to deflect it if necessary.

Of course it will. But the chances of one doing so anytime soon is very remote. Since the formation of the solar system, the Earth and Moon have been struck millions of times by meteorites, hence the large craters about the place. Even if one hit, the chances of it wiping out life on Earth is also very remote. Humans are very adaptable, and have knowledge and technology which allows us to live is very harsh climates. When the dinosaurs were wiped out, possibly as a result of an asteroid impact 65 million years ago, is was because they could not adapt.
Think about that, if the last very large impact occurred 65 million years ago, how common do you think large asteroids are?
Many of the larger asteroids have either been attracted to other bodies such as Jupiter or the Sun within the last 5 billion years, or are in orbits which do not involve colliding with other objects.

Well, unfortunately there are many fragments, and remnants of the formation of the solar system still flying out there. Some of them have orbits that intersect the Earth´s.
I would like to say no, but there is a probability, yes. However is very small.
There are facts that support my argument. If you review what happened in Jupiter in 1994 with comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 it is a little scary. And now, an asteroid is heading towards Mars with a probability to hit it of 1 in 25. If it hits, many people will sit dawn and think -wow, this is serious business!

Comets strike Earth on a daily basis (tiny ones, of path). in fact, there is one satellite tv for pc that has, as its important job, the diagnosis of comets hitting the top surroundings. Comets are extra loosely sure than asteroids, so as that they've a tendency to interrupt aside plenty greater than asteroids while they do enter the ambience. of path, all "predictions" for 2012 are suspect. Over ninety 9% of the predictions with regards to 2012 are fake, with those for December being even faker. Apophis isn't a comet and there is not any hypothesis: it won't hit us in 2036, no longer in 2037 and not in 2069 (the three closest bypass for this asteroid's destiny). The Mayan calendar would not even end. That lie became invented interior the overdue Eighties for a e book that became offered interior the early Nineteen Nineties. the author (J.A.) became giving HIS awareness of previous effective-American calendars. His awareness became, how could be say this courteously... erroneous. Even the tale on the topic of the Mayans believing in a clean Age (their gods reviewing their introduction at that factor) became written 5 centuries after the decline of the Mayan empire... by utilising a Spanish priest. That makes it under a hundred% solid (although, it would not make it immediately incorrect). of path, you need to have faith in Mayan gods, nonetheless. --- dissimilar the questions approximately 2012 in this internet site are quite for the purpose of artificially keeping a point of hype previous to the launch of a action picture referred to as "2012" (later q4).

Asteroids ( big lumps of ice and rock) are hitting the earth all the time - most burn up when they hit out atmosphere
If you mean an asteroid or comet like in the disaster films then IT WILL happen but as we watch the skies so intensely we will have plenty of warning of a likely catastrophic event
There are non likely in the next 500 years at least
( one less thing for you to worry about :))

Yes a comet or asteroid will hit earth. It could be 20 million years or so before one large enough to cause a major global disaster. We have people looking into the skies to try to locate possible near earth objects. However, there could still be many out there on a collision coarse with earth.

It's nearly a mathematical certainty, but when is the big question. It could be millions or billions of years. Comets are harder to track then asteroids which tend to orbit on a single plane. A comet can come from any direction.

Do I look like God to you?
The whole humanity could say that a comet will hit Earth, but we are nothing compared to God. Only he knows because he has all the power. Could we know what's going to happen tomorrow? We don't. Then it's more likely not to know what's going to happen is a million years. God is the only one who knows what's ever going to happen.

It has before, it will happen again. Stuff probably hits us from space more than you might think, the only thing is it's not always huge like it was with the dinosaurs.
