I have a feeling that that's supposed to catch me off guard, but it won't.

From a character named 'Temple' should I should expect a pretend 'I am open to everything' answer? Don't try and con me with your everything-is-philosophy approach.

Wittering paradoxes might throw up the odd question, but it is only half a job. Philosophy tries to answer as well as ask questions, and fuzzy thinking in the name 'open minds' is obfuscation rather than clarification.

Shivers: I couldn't have put it better. It's either people claiming to be Einstein's ghost or some egomaniac drunk on a cocktail of Confucius/Nietzsche and crank physics.

The problem you self-appointed quacks create is down to the wide subject matter of philosophy, which you then think gives you a license to write meaningless sentences and pass them off as profound thought. You can get away with it here, but in the real world of philosophy you'd sink like a stone.

Am not someone who's overly familiar with anything of a philosophical nature(though I have a few moments, but dang, I'm not better than anyone else), but have seen some outright drivel appearing in this section.
Some people just like to bamboozle others with convoluted, illogical nonsense to try and prove that they are somehow more mystical and intelligent than anyone else here.
Nonsensical hippies who need to stop smoking lawn clippings because the manure in it is giving them mental diarrhoea and everyone else the sh1ts.

I think Yahoo's flawed auto category recommendation algorithm magnifies category pollution in a kind of Baldwin Effect cycle.
Once the number of rubbish questions asked in this category reaches a certain threshold, all questions with slightly whimsical keywords will end up getting junked in here.
Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it, apart from complain I guess.

This is interesting coming from someone who is called Oracle!

Philosophy is the seeking of truth through intellectual and moral understanding.

Mysticism is the seeking of truth through an understanding of God.

The two are not exclusive.

Don't you be.

Many philosophers come across as mystic and many mystics are considered to be philosophic; after death.

They both seek the truth.

I wouldn't be as concerned about colonization as I would be about asking an honest question.

Get used to, or find a better place to discus your brand of B.S. Your posting this question is not likely to make a difference.

Colonised by mystics or an invasion of sophistry?

Either way you have a point, I will do my best to refrain from doing it.

Nothing wrong with mysticism. But true mystics know it's not something one can intelligibly discuss. The problem is Newage (rhymes with "sewage") drivel.

I think it is you. You can focus on this problem to settle on a course of action ( which, though elegant, would change nothing) or you can sit back and enjoy the show.
C. :)!!

I think it has been colonised by a bunch of twats, know it alls and people who think they are smarter then the other one. Philosphers...who needs them?

It also suffers from a bad case of 'people seeking affirmation of their opinion(s)', which is what this question is. Since ANSWERS has no category for that, I forgive you.

I know what you mean. Whatever happened to the questions on Hegel's semiology or Formal Axiomatic Ontology?
