after highschool, i want to major the medical study, and be a doctor but my parents seems to not really agree with me. they keep offering me other choices and cynically telling stories that is meant to discourage me. such as practical autopsy, difficult lessons, injection, some of them are badly paid (in my country), and how one of my relatives ends up not practicing after finish medical school. or whatever. seems my parents doubt my patience and will to study in a long time (it takes a long time to be a doctor, doesnt it?) and FYI, i'm the only kid in my family. they think it's not suitable for a girl coz you-know-why. i know my parents hope for the best for their daugther, but i cant think of other choices, i would really like to be a doctor. i'm really serious. i know the risks and i accept them. how to convince them to agree? or should i find another field?

Hey, follow your dreams. Don't let your parents hold you back for something you really want.
Its like saying you want that 1 million dollars, but your parents say take the one dollar. Now, who doesn't want a million dollars? And, they are probably just worried that you will end up like your relatives and waste your time studying in med school.
Try to convince your parents that this will be a well paying job!

In what country do you live? It would help to better answer your question. I don't know what the expectations are for a daughter where you live. In my country, the women who are doctors are HIGHLY respected and sought after. Any parent here would be proud to say their child was a doctor!! It sounds like you have a lot of respect for your parents, too, knowing they want what is best for you. Is it possible that finances are involved? I do think in any country it takes quite a number of years to become a doctor...and quite a few more to make any "real" money at it.

Sorry I couldn't be more help...please don't give up on your dreams. I'm just letting you know your dreams may change as you get closer to adulthood.

You cannot convince them. I would not find another field because they do not agree with what you have chosen. If you want to be a doctor you need to do it. Study hard and prove them wrong. Good luck to you.

Parents hardly ever agree with what their children want to do, and if they are as set against what you want as you are set for what you want, you probably won't be able to convince them.

Scholarships and financial aid are available. Should you be absolutely passionate about becoming a doctor, even if your parents will not support you, there is money available.

In the long run it is your choice, it is ur life not theirs although they are just trying to help u and do whats best for u. You should tell them what u want 2 do and what u are sticking 2 thank them for their suggestions and if they are not what u want to do let them no. As you want to be happy what u are doing not just doing it for some1 else if it will not make u happy u will regret it in the long run.

DO IT!! You may change your mind in the future but work like you are going to medical school. Have confidence in yourself and tell your parents that it isn't right for them to try to hold you back and if they don't have anything encouraging for you then they need not comment at all.

are they worried it will be too hard? I say go for it. If it is too hard, you can change your course along the way. The world needs more doctors (especially Australia) so, if you succeed, come over here and work in outback Australia :) Pay is good but a bit isolated

If they don't want to accept it. They aren't going to. I have the same problem with my dad but whatever I say to him what i want to do he has a pick about it. I guess his trying to do whats best for me but whats best for me is to do something that i love to do. This is sorta the same with you. Dont let your parents pressue you to do something what you dont want to do. In the long run you're just going to be sad that you didn't do wehat you wanted to do. And when your parents see you happy they'll come around.
