ok im going to split this answer into two categories...Horror and Gore. The Goriest film this year would be Saw 4 by far as for horror the movie Vacancy was absolutely horrifying, well more so the special features you see people getting tortured so brutally it made me sick to my stomach and i absolutely love horror and gore films

The Crazies (I've only seen the remake) 9. Orphan 10. Creep 11. Dying Breed 12. Autopsy 16. Final Destination series (the last one isn't that good though) 18. The Glass House 19. Laid to Rest 23. House of Wax 24. Catacombs 27. Jeepers Creepers 28. The Skeleton Key 32. Hatchet (campy) 37. Snakes on a Plane (Campy but fun) 38. Untraceable 39. Lake Dead 40. Cabin Fever 45. The Saw movies are by far the best and sickest!!!!!!!!! Talk about taking a horror movie to the next level. I can't wait to see IV to see if they are able to top the first three. Enjoy!!!!!

I don't watch many of them so I can't be a good judge. But I walked out after the trailer scene in The Hills Have Eyes. In my opinion, that movie pushed the limits too far.
I prefer my horror more along the lines of The Others. I choose not to watch this new generation of horror (I like to call them torture porn) because I do not want those images in my mind - even if I know they are fake.

The Hills have eyes 1 & 2. these movies are disgusting and disturbing in many ways.

Saw 1 - 4 are not horror movies. They are not scary at all, ignore the gross out factor and they are just crap plots plus nonsensical endings.
