I'm 18 and this year I've lost 44lb/20kgs. I was just slightly over weight to begin with and now I'm a healthy weight. My breast have always been large. When I was 14 I was a D-DD and since then they've gotten larger. At the moment I'm a DD-E. I'm 5'9/175cm 140lb/60kgs. I eat healthy, exercise and drink a lot of water. I don't smoke, do drugs and I drink very occasionally.
I live in New Zealand and it's quite hard to find bras that fit me (unless they're maternity bras, which I refuse to wear!). I can't buy online because I don't have a credit card (and my Mum won't let me use hers).
I have a back and neck injury and I'm quite often in pain. My breasts obviously don't help this.
I spoke to my Mum about it today and she said that next time I go to the doctor I should talk about getting a breast reduction and she would pay for some of it.
I would be happy if I was a C cup.
Would I be too young to get a breast reduction? And does insurance cover this surgery? Is it effective?

Please, serious answers only. This is making me depressed and I don't care if 'guys will go crazy over them' or whatever. I just want them gone.

I think you are a perfect candidate for breast reduction. You have lost weight and are at healthy number. Unfortunately the weight did not come off your chest. (I sure wish we could pick where it comes off :) So at this point the only option for them to get smaller is by surgery. I think now would be a perfect time to get them reduced. Your young and healthy so you should have no problems with the surgery or recovery. If your breasts are causing you pain, then yes insurance will cover it. I'm not sure if they cover it all, or just most of it. It is very effective and the results are fantastic. Definately speak to your doctor. You need him/her to help in the process of getting insurance to cover it if the doctor says it's necessary. Good luck!

When I was in the Navy, one of my troops showed me a picture of her taken a few years before. She stood 5', and looked like Dolly Parton. She had breast reduction surgery. She was having back pains, shoulder pains. She lifted her shirt and bottom of her bra and you could barely see a light pink scar under her breast. (Yes, we were that close as friends...long story.) She is a beautiful gal and since the surgery, she was a much happier one, too. Talk to a surgeon about a breast reduction. Like Dawn, I think you'll be much happier. One day we had a party at the home of one of my other troops, and I noticed Dawn and a large breasted neighbor in the corner talking. That summer, Tina (the neighbor) was over in her bathing suit and something just didn't look right. She soon said, "I have to take this thing off. My stitches are itching like crazy." Then it dawned on me (pardon the pun) that she, too, had breast reduction. Those little puppies were standing proud. Good luck!

Insurance should definitely cover at least some of your operation, should you decide to go ahead with it - it's not purely for cosmetic reasons, so I don't think there'll be a problem. You'll probably have to undergo some sort of assessment before getting the operation to see exactly how it is affecting you. My sister had her ears pinned back a few years ago and that's what she had to do, anyway.
It is a pretty serious decision to make, but for so many women that's the only option. Definitely discuss it with your doctor and see what happens, and good luck!
Also, I feel your pain - I'm a 36F, so I know how irritating they can be (and I know *all* about buying horrible bras!).

My sister is 18. She is getting one. She is a size GG, and she still is popping out of that one, but shes's too depressed to go up a size. You aer not too young. The only thing is you had to have stopped growing, or alot of people won't do it. You have medical reasons to get it done. My sister also has back problems, she can't sleep on her stomach, she can't lift heavy things, and most of the time she can't do things with me because I do sports and her breast are too big. It is obviously very effective, and if you have back problems (you can always make it look worse then it is) the insurance company will most likely pay for it. Good luck.

Hi Wabby, My ex sister-in-law had the same problem and she had a breast reduction and it work for her. Her back no longer hurts her and she doesn't look like she will fall foreword. Insurance does cover for this and if you are having health issues because of your large breast you are not to young for the reduction. Talk to your doctor and call your insurance. You will do find and feel a lot better.

Definitely get in touch with your insurance company. The pain you experience should qualify you for some money for this surgery. As long as you can afford it, you should go for it. At 18, breast reductions are considered very safe. And I hear they are very effective. And it sounds like you would be so much happier. Good luck!

If the size of your breasts are causing other problems like back and neck pain then you should defiantly talk about it with your doctor and your not too young in fact the fact that you are so young and in good health is better cause you will heal faster. And like mentioned in another answer make sure you do your research on doctors before you have it done so it is done right.

I can only suggest you consult your doctor. You have said in previous mail you are still growing. That will have to be taken into account before any surgery is done.
The bra issue seems easy to resolve to me.
a) get a credit card.
b) get your Mum to buy it for you.
I don't have a credit card, so if I want to buy something, I give my brother the details of what I want, on his computer, fill in all the details, and then go away and he will put in his credit card details.
When I get the goods I just pay him.
I hope this is helpful Wabby Happy New Year, 17.5 hours to go.

Not too young, but usually insurance doesn't cover it as it's "cosmetic." If you can get a doctor to sign a form that there is a need to do it, such as your back, they might pay for it though.
It is effective, they might grow again if you gain weight or something. And some surgeons are better than others, I've seen 1st hand boob jobs where the nipples were left uneven. So get before and after photos of the surgeons work, ask to talk to past patients, etc.

I think you should have some kind of health cover for it, because it is not a purely cosmetic procedure. You aren't too young to get a breast reduction. Go for it!
