jealousy, pure and simple...the fish did it back in the days when football was a rough sport, and you couldnt cherry pick the league for talented players. They ran the table in an era when the rules were different, and you had to build a team from within, they came out of nowhere and set the benchmark with their flawless season, people will always hate on those who accomplish something big. They use the excuse that "they had an easy schedule" or whatever...too bad the Pats didnt exactly have a grueling schedule, and they still almost managed to blow it against some pretty crappy teams...and so what if they did have an easy schedule??? Swear like no other team has ever had an easy schedule, yet the Phins were the only ones to remain undefeated until now, plus they did it with an aging BACK UP QB (#12 broke his leg early in the season for all of you who want to hate without first educating yoruselves), furthermore... they still had to beat the Steelers ON THE ROAD to win the AFC championship (Patsies get home field advantage in the post-season), then they had to beat the Skins who were FAVORED to win, so say what you want, it wasnt exactly a duck walk for those guys...I'll be laughing when these same sportscasters and fair-weather fans who are all riding Brady's nuts now get their bubbles burst when the Patsies dont even make it to the Superbowl...
Sorry boys, the books are sealed...the 72 Phins are the greatest, now and forever...

The 72 dolphins only beat two teams with a winning record. and both those teams were 8-6. As mentioned before, they were not even favored to win the superbowl. I guess people just get tired of hearing about how great those dolphins were when they had
1) no salary cap to contend with
2) locked in their players (no free agency)
3) no strength of schedule balancing
The dolphins dont even rank in the top 5 if you ask me. even with the undefeated 17-0 season. All the pompous comments about how the patriots can join the dolphins club are completely ridiculous. For one thing, the pats would be 19-0, which clearly places them above the fins. They would have done it in an era of free agency, and they would have beaten 6 playoff teams during the regular season. The fins beat exactly 0.
Those dolphins did something special going 17-0, but comparing it to what the patriots could potentially accomplish this year just doesnt add up. Barring injury, could you imagine the patriots not being favored in the superbowl? Yet the fins were underdogs to the skins... they were not even respected in a year that they went undefeated. why should they have any respect today?
having said all that, the pats still have the toughest portion of the road ahead of them. while i would love to see them go 19-0, its not a foregone conclusion...

The 1972 dolphins only beat 2 teams with winning records in 1972, and NO playoff teams. The 2007 Pats have beaten 6 playoff teams this year, something that's never been done. After the Pats win the superbowl, no one will ever talk about the 1972 dolphins again.
Tom Brady isn't "smug", he's gracious, modest, classy, and always gives credit to his team mates and opponents. You're a jerk and loser.

No one likes the 72 dolphins because no one has ever liked the 72 dolphins. They barely won most of their games and were by no means dominant. The defense was good but greise is not a good QB and the offense wasnt scary in the least bit. They werent favored in the super bowl in 1972 the redskins were....enough said.
That along with their ridiculous celebration of other teams losing gives them a bad rep of pompous arrogant people.
And as for griese being good take a look at his 1972 superbowl stats 8 for 11 passing with a touchdown. And with a career touchdown to interception ratio of 192-178 its clear he is in the hall of fame because of the players around him not his talent. If numbers like that got you in I'm booking tickets to see Jim Harbaugh's induction which should be coming up shortly
As for the rest of the question i do hate the patriots, mainly because of Bill Belichek but also because of tom brady

I am not sure if there is a question in there, but I will comment. Brady is not smug. He is focused and intense and very self-critical. On the other hand, Don Shula, Mercury Morris and Jim Kiick have been in the media lately speaking their minds about the Patriots.
As for hating the 1972 Dolphins, that was 35 years ago. The players are all in the AARP league by now.

The '72 Dolphins have been the most arrogant team since they ran the table. I am a Giants fan and am kind of happy the Pats won and went 16-0 shutting those smug jerkoffs up. The Pats need to win the superbowl still in order to better Miami's perfect season, and relegate them to just another superbowl champ.

I used to respect the 1972 Dolphins, but since Shula starts spewing filth out of his mouth I dont care anymore about their best record.
I know these old timers are scared to lose the best record, but they were meant to be broken. Even if Patriots broke their record, they would have retained greatness if they showed respect to superb games put up by the Patriots. Instead, they acted like classless trashy Packers fans.
So Shula...I guess you should shove all the champagnes down your throat now,and eat the humble pie even though its 3 decades too late.

You mean the '72 Dolphins who had the easiest schedule in the history of the NFL! (Actually the 3rd easiest in the modern era)The '72 Dolphins opposition went 70-122 for a 0.367 and the Pats opponents this yr are 0.519 (108-100).
The Patriots have defeated 6 playoff teams including the AFC #2,3,4 and the NFCs #1 seed.
The Dolphins only played two regular season games against teams with a record above .500 (both were 8--6) and when the fins played those 2 teams they had a losing record
