and if there are bad things about it, shouldn't we just realize the bad things and introspect in our minds how we can improve it. I believe now that I have suffered from it but I wonder if it truly is a disorder or if it's just how my personality is wired. Even so, shouldn't I just accept it and read about how I can overcome some of the issues I have with it?

But that, ADD people often fluctate in moods throughout the day similar to Bipolar. By accepting this and realizing what is going on, shouldn't i just say to myself that I am goinhg to get better and that soon i'll think about something else and be ok.

Personally, I agree. I want to stress for anyone who reads this that I'm only expressing my personal opinion, and I know many people have had a lot of success with medication.

I fit the ADD profile. I'm 36 now. And I think the most important thing is that the world is not set up for us. The world is 9 - 5 for the most part, though yes, technology is changing that. The world wants us all to just stay calm in the midst of constant sensory input.

On top of that we pump ourselves full of fast paced tv, fast driving, fast freindships, , only 100 years ago there was no TV barely any cars, and now everything around us is zoom, zoom, zoom! And yet we are supposed to detach from that and concentrate when the world decides we should.

Personally, the moment I start concentrating on a particular thing, that's when I am no longer productive. Right now I have the TV, a 3D modeling program, some photo editing, and now Yahoo Answers all going at once. If I didn't have all of this going on, I would grind to a halt.

I recall the Kids In The Hall movie, where the happy pill took over the world, and it seemed so far-fetched, and yet it happens right in front of us now.

I blame the pharmacutical industry for a lot of it. That's one of the reasons that it's classified as a disorder, they have to make it a disorder so that they can then sell us a pill to treat it. And yet they will argue against marijuana for self treatment...

Alas, I am just babbling like an ADD riddled fool, I better go get some meds :)

Sure. And if wishes were horses, I'd be playing polo with Prince Charles right now.

In other words, whether you call this a disorder or a personality type, you can't just wish it away. Haven't you suffered with it for ten years? Why not just get help. Go to a specialist, start trying different things, and work to overcome it. You can't just magically think it away. If you could, don't you think a lot of people would be much better and happier already?

Genuine ADD is a chemical imbalance and can improve markedly with the right medication... not to 'drug people out' but to actually help right the imbalance. Artificial chemicals are never as good as our own, but they can be very helpful for those who have a chemical deficiency in some areas. It's like depression in that way, the right medication can be very helpful there too.
There is no virtue in struggling on your own against something over which you have little control. If medication will help you get on top of what is happening and have a better life, then grab it with both hands.
