Why have you not mentioned anything about the poor decisions by the umpires? If there are such umpires then it is certain that India will not win a single Test. They also played some part in bringing about India's crushing defeat. I don't think they had overconfidence or underestimated the opponents. It was poor batting and fielding performance which was also one of the reasons for the downfall.

Your Indians played well for about 3 sessions in the game. They won the first afternoon hands down.
India needs to learn that to beat the world's best, you have to win at least 9 of the 15 sessions available in a game and not get excited when you win one or even two.
Australia just kept applying the screws. Impetuous batting by some stars, pathetic batting by others (eg Dravid - who I rate as one of the very best) cost India the game on the second day. But also the bowling was superb from the supposedly inexperienced Aussies. They just played their method and waited ... that's what they do.
India has to gain some mental toughness ... they may be mentally tough, but not tough enough yet. Bring on game 2!

Lack of confidence.
Lack of application.
Lack of strategy...
are the reasons for the poor performance .
Above all the main reason is the Aussies superior performance in many aspects.

actually it was nothing of that sort. India is a good team but Aussies have plan A , plan B, plan C or every batsman s i watched the game, Lee setting up Tendulkar on back fot by two bouncers and then bowling a wide delivery outside offstump. Ponting jam packed offide field and consistently bowled against the strength of Indians , Indians just couldn't find out the way to come out of strangle hold that why a batsman like Sehwag at top, who can hit over fielders to rupture the bowlers length would be handy.
unless Indians have counter plans of Ponting well prepared homework, they will be defeated again like this. Attack the opposition and stun them is just the best tactic instead of playing in their hands.
just lack of application and planning

i say its sheer overconfidence....though dey knew dat aussies r the toughest spl in deir own cricket ground....inspite of dat dey merely had one game for practice........dat is too much for the indian side who though had class batsmen ......dey r not so much in form now......dey were to xcited ovr the win ovr pakistan.......now dat was a team with injured n worn out players........evn bakyard cricket wld have seemd bttr.......so unless dey concentrate on the next 3 matches...the aussies will b for a clean sweep........if dey jus fool around n take tings lightly notin will wrk out.....the opein pair must b stronger........but the aussies r definitly favourites......n will be intimidating n aggressive aftr their 15 match winnin streak.....india awaits a tough team

there'e no way for over confidence or under estimation when playing aainst aussies.
its only poor performance from the indian batsmen.
even though we have strong batting line and experienced guys.... there's no consistency in their batting.
