If they go 19-0 there is no way anyone can ever say they aren't the greatest team ever.

...now, let me preface this by saying that I am a Phins fan, and I hate the Pats, but I will give credit where credit is due...in the NFL, running the table is a big deal, but the Pats perfect season will never be anything nearly as impressive as the accomplishment of the '72 Dolphins, who were not able to just go out and purchase a championship, the way the Patsies have. They had to build from within. And not only did the '72 Dolphins have the Perfect Season, but because of the rules in 1972, even though the Dolphins had the best record in the AFC, they actually had to win the AFC Championship game on the road in Pttsburgh!!! The Patsies will not have to deal will that . . . again, tainting their "accomplishment." Also, the '72 Dolphins are even more impressive when you consider that they played most of the season with an ancient, BACK-UP QB, after their HOF QB Bob Griese broke his leg early in the season . . . and they went 32-2 over back-to-back championship seasons.
72 Phins, still the greatest, now and for-frickin-ever!!!

Not as far as history will be concerned, Regardless of what people say about them now, in 20 years the 2007 patriots will be talked about like gods among men.
Just like the 72 Dolphins
Assuming of course that they win the superbowl. No superbowl they might as well shut up.

I don't think the Patriots of today could compete well against the 49ers in their prime with Montana... or against the Cowboys of the late 80's and early 90's (before they all got arrested). Heck, I would wonder if they could take on the Bears team that won the Superbowl and win.
They are good at winning now.. but greatest ever is a VERY VERY big boast that they, I dont think, can make honestly.
Of course, their fans have no problems with making outragous and short sighted boasts....

If they win the super bowl, they will be the greatest team ever, but in the playoffs and super bowl the teams will be getting tougher, because there are no patsies like in the regular season, and it's harder to beat a good team twice.

There is no way to prove that they are the best team "ever." Unless we bring all the great teams back since the beginning and have them play each other. Greatest team in this decade, for sure.

I honestly do no believe that they Patriots are going to the SB. I'm not saying that because I don't care for them and im not saying that because I want to see them fail. They are a very talented team who has done what no other team has done, going 16-0, But I really think the Colts or Jags can come a long and surprise them. After watching tonights game, I really do think they can be beaten. 4 times this season have they won by 4pts or less because their opponents offense played hard.

There will always be a question just like no one can agree on who the best team is of all time now...not including the Pats. I think they will be the greatest, but once again...that's my opinion.

Who cares? They'll be counted on the list of the top dynasty teams in the years to come. There's no official title or certification of "NFL greatest team ever"

Nothing. If they win the Super Bowl, they're it. If they don't, they are just a footnote like the 1942 Bears.
