I understand why he's sitting on his thumbs regarding trades [because every team wants Lincecum or Cain in return] but I have no idea why he couldnt sign the check fast enough to get Barry Zito, then sits out of the ARod talks? SF was high in the running for ARod throughout the season, then all of a sudden, nothing. Not even a peep out of Sabean. He pulled this same nonsense with Vlad a couple of years ago and with Richie Sexson and Adam Dunn as well. Then he goes out and signs...Aaron Rowand? Maybe he overlooked the 6 centerfielders we already have just so he can feel like he accomplished something this off season. Dont get me wrong, I like the Rowand deal, but there are other areas that need to be addressed ASAP and he's over here flirting with outfielders.
Knowing him and his prior moves, he's probably going to trade Fred Lewis and Kevin Frandsen [while keeping Dave Roberts and Durham] for someone like Jose Mesa. It's got to happen, because right now, there are too many prospects floating around...we MUST get rid of them in exchange for veterans that have one foot out the door.

When Brian Sabean was a little boy, a promising baseball prospect must have run over his puppy. That's the only way I can explain his inherent hatred for them and his compulsion for dealing them as soon as he can. I give Cain one more year in a Giants uniform before he gets dealt. Lincecum...2 years tops.

Horrible time to be a Giants fan. Unless Willie comes out of retirement and throws on a uni next year, I already dont plan on going to any games.

i think of that the fulfillment is reaped by utilising the two facets of the bay. The Athletics have quite some international Championship earrings the place the Giants have one. The Athletics has great pitching, a reliable farm gadget, to boot as surprising sluggers interior the previous. The Giants have a potential record breaker, playoff adventure and a history of hall of attractiveness gamers. The followers are the winners using fact no metropolitan area different than new york has 2 communities in close proximity to a minimum of one yet another. The SF Bay area has 3 baseball communities (Oakland/Fremont, San Francisco and unmarried A San Jose), Cal and Stanford NCAA activities, an NBA championship prevailing basketball team, international championship prevailing expert area soccer, 2 great Bowl prevailing NFL communities, a playoff skilled hockey team and expert lacrosse.

Unless your team happens to rhyme with coils or days, there's no reason to think that your season is over before it begins. Everyone has a chance. That being said, the Giants are rebuilding majorly. The rotation is getting very young very fast, but the lineup just isn't there yet. Rowand was brought in to appease the fans and to make sure that the team wasn't totally punchless, but it will be a year or two until the Giants will be in the upper half of offensive producers.

I have been a Giants fan for a long time and have never known them to have good front office management...still...I am hopeful there are signs of a plan...

In that cavernous ballpark, they could be very tough if they focus on pitching and defense. The starting rotation could be great (especially if the Z in Zito does not mean Zero), but relief is still an issue. Adding Rowand helps in the lineup but even more in centerfield, which is a must for that park.

One more good bat and things could be interesting, but I don't see us winning the west next year.

Still...Go Giants!

The Giants will not impress anyone this season, but I will not throw in the towel now. The ballpark food is great. I mean we still have Lincecum and Cain and Lowry and zito and Sanchez and Hennessy and Correia and Wilson and damn we have a lot of pitching. We need to find a way to find a speedy team. We need players to slap the ball into triples alley. Imagine how many triples a Jose Reyes would have. If Fred Lewis becomes a consistent hitter he may be the guy to tally on a tremendous amount of triples. We have promising prospects, but it seems like we are under utilizing them. It just looks like we sign players to put bandages on our wounds, but we dont put hydrogen peroxide to heal the wound. I see this team taking gradual steps to greatness, but that won't be until the next decade. but hey its okay! we have the ACME Chophouse at the yard!

For the upcoming season, I might have to say yes. They have really good pitching, however the rest of teams in the division do too. The problem the Giants are going to have is offense. When Aaron Rowand is your best source of power and Benjie Molina is second best, you're in trouble! Ray Durham, Omar Vizquel, Randy Winn, Dave Roberts, & Rich Aurilia are going to have to play OUT OF THEIR MINDS for the Giants to contend this year. You had better hope a couple of their minor leaguers performs better than expected and can help produce, but that's the only prayer I see them having right now.

They have a nice future ahead of them with Cain and Lincecum and Sanchez. But hitting is too old. They won't pitch to Rowand, SF should have waited to use that money. They need one franchise hitter, and some surrounding talent, and maybe they'll have a chance by '09-'10

Not time to throw your towel in yet. Your rotation features Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum and Barry Zito. You just signed Aaron Rowand. Theres much to lean on. And im expecting them to add one more big bat before the season starts. PLus im an A's fan!

No, my White Sox GM gets me mad a lot. But you just got Rowand! He was with the White Sox for a while and you will love his style in San Francisco. And in 2005, the White Sox came out of nowhere to win it all. And their theme song: Don't Stop Believing by Journey!

BTW, Joe Crede, AJ Pierzynski, and AARON ROWAND brought that to the team! He can do the same in SF!

Yes. Not only are they overstocked with veterans that don't contribute much, their farm system is producing very little especially in the way of offensive players. It'll still be fun to watch Lincecum and Cain progress into two very good pitchers though.
