I am not sure about UK brand names. In the US, some versatile cheeses for sandwiches are cheddar (mild isn't as likely to fall apart as sharp), muenster, swiss and what we call "american" cheese... it just dawned on me that the name makes no sense somewhere else!!! Provolone is good, too. Examples of brand names you would find here are Thumann's, Boar's Head and Alpine Lace. Now I'm sorry I didn't pay more attention last time I was eating sandwiches in London!

Swiss.....(worked at subway) they dun have old english as far as i can remember and the chedder cheese is shredded.
Swiss is the best...
