Someone asked this in P&S and my answer of "Alice Cooper's -Welcome to My Nightmare" suddenly seemed very antique. So I wanted to re-ask the question in the Seniors section.

The best concert I ever went to was one where almost nobody showed up.

David Friesen is one of those fantastic jazz musicians who is known everywhere in the world except in his own home town. He plays a string bass, usually thought of as an instrument only for accompaniment, but in his hands is a solo instrument.

Anyway, one evening a friend called and said that David Freisen was playing in some hotel lounge. Apparently we were the only ones who knew about the performance.

So most of the evening we were the only ones listening, though once in a while someone would wander in for a few minutes. A lesser musician probably would have packed up and gone home. But Friesen gave an amazing performance, as if he were playing in Carnegie Hall, even though only two of us were listening.

In between sets he joined us at our table and sipped on a glass of water while he chatted with us about music.

We stayed for a couple of hours, and in that time experienced a wonderful performance by an extraordinary musician and gentleman. No fireworks, no chorus, no light show, no makeup, no costumes, no giant amps. Just one guy with a string bass. But it was the best "concert" I ever went to, and I would be surprised if anything ever surpassed it.

OMG, I saw Alice Coopers Welcome to my Nightmare tour too in Chicago which was the opening day of his 80 city world wide tour. Believe it or not, that crazy funny guy opened his tour on April Fools day. The next day in Chicago, we had a snow storm/blizzard that dumped a foot of snow, but it melted by the day after. The snow storm was weird because we normally do not get snow after February.

My favorite concert was a mega outdoors concert with AC/DC and 4 other bands. Great concert

John Denver spoiled me for most concerts. His was intimate, he was articulate about the causes he was interested in. He didn't need lazers and smoke bombs to get his message across.
He encouraged audience participation in his concerts, he wanted you to sing along with him.
He had some of the best session people in his back up band , most of whom had been in Rick Nelson's and Elvis ' back up bands. And it didn't matter if you were a little kid or gramma you could go to a JD concert and be entertained and not be uncomfortable or disgusted.

You could actually understand all the lyrics and as he aged his voice improved so much.

Plus as he aged he was pretty easy on the eyes too . LOL

I saw Jethro Tull in two different concerts at the Chicago Stadium in about 1973 & 1974. Two very psychodelic experiences.
Saw the Moody Blues and Led Zepplin live at the Stadium in about 1973 or 1974; Paul Simon live in Carbondale, after his first solo album; Dan Fogelburg unplugged in St. Paul

These were each the best concerts in their own ways.

I'd say the Graceland concert with Paul Simon. I've been to a lot of concerts, but that one was really special. The music was the best, and the stage full of African singers was fantastic. He had Ladysmith Black Mambaso performing, and the audience just about cheered the roof off the stadium. What a night !!

I haven't had the opportunity to go to concerts. My first husband was a workaholic and when he did take me/us somewhere there was always some kind of hassle and over the least little thing like finding a parking place...he is a very intense person.
If I could have been to one it would have been a Garth Brooks concert. I watched one on TV just this week and he can really connect with the audience.

I've been to a few concerts the best one was the most recent. I had the best time.It was the " Bad Boys of Rock" tour. I got to meet Hinder and pics of them(with my camera). But the concert was great, Buckcherry was incredible! It was the best live performance I've ever seen. They were so great.Papa Roach played also, and that guy knows how to work a crowd. It was insane.Hinder played last and they were good (and I love them)but I liked Buckcherry's performance better. They just did better.Oh and the best part was when we met Hinder my girlfriend told the lead singer that I havethe "Lips of an Angel"
It was great.LOL

My husband and I went to all 5 Grateful Dead concerts in Las Vegas, would'a been more if Jerry Garcia had lived. They were so much fun and the opening acts were all headliners, Steve Miller, Sting, Santana, and I forget the other two.
