With all the differences of gardening opinions and practices of today, mainly "Organic" vs "Non"Organic do you think it would be in the best interest of Y/A to add the category of "Organic" Gardening? This way the non-organics wouldn't be butting heads with the organic group and vice versa. What do you think about a separate category?

Putting "Organic" in the title is not going to alleviate the problem. My whole point of this question is the butting of heads. Everyone has seen it here. One person wants to kill it right now, and the other says no, do it with soap and water, it's safer for the environment. One says to use granular fertilizer and someone else will pipe up and say to use manure or compost instead. There seems to be alot of coming in behind a persons answers with the attempt to "discredit" them. That is why I have asked this question. Maybe if they have their own category the organics can answer questions in their own language, amongst themselves.

Oh, definitely an organic specific category would be welcome. Thanks for the suggestion -- I hope Y!A takes it seriously...

Perhaps there should be a living 'green' section as there is so much interest in the environment these days, and the section could include not only organic garden ideas but ideas on water conservation, solar etc. I'm sure there would be a lot of interest.

That's not a bad idea, but the only problem is that if someone comes to G&L for information shouldn't they get both sides?
I've seen what you are talking about and agree that it can get out of hand. However, I think that we should try to present our point of view as best we can, but we should also try to be more mature about doing it when we disagree with other opinions. With sepearate categories then the asker may not get the information they need to make an informed decision since we are only allowed to ask that particular question in only one particular category. I know that when I ask a question, I want different opinions as I think most askers do. It's a nice thought, but I think the asker would be missing out on information they could possibly use.

.Yes I agree there should be at least 2 more categories. One should be for the Twits and another for the people who really want to ask and answer. This category went to the dumps, some people are blocking people for no reason at all. The thing that really gets me is when someone answerer's a question and another answerer takes cheap shots at them. You know, let them alone, if you don't agree with a answerer post your own. Organic or not.
It seems to me, most everyone does try to grow organic, so the separate category of pesticides or in your case organic makes little difference.
If only we could get rid of the trolls and twits.

After your additional details,
That is the whole point of asking a question. To get results and ideas. I do think that it is best to provide a source or link.

No, that's getting too specific. If you do organic/non organic soon everyone will want a catagory for different growing climates. Then they would want it split between actual gardens growning fruits & vegetables and a section for flowers and potted plants... when would it end?

It's like dividing the Investing section into separate stocks/bonds/mutual funds catagories.

No need..... this catagory moves slowly enough as it is. Just put *ORGANIC* in your title and anyone that wants to can avoid it.

I would welcome that category myself. I would like to start a backyard organic garden for my family, but I have no idea where to begin. I have next to no gardening experience whatsoever!

I don't know how easy it is to add a new subcategory, but I like your idea. Those of us who want to pursue organic options only could do so and those who prefer to garden in the traditional manner could interact without screening input they'd rather not bother with. I think there fairly distinct groups of each type of gardening.

Yes, I think there should be many more categories mainly
vegetables
Flowers
trees & shrubs
landscape lighting
curb appeal "may be concidered decoration"
organics
pest control
Now that I thought about it HOME and GARDENING should be seperated like inside and outside big differances.

I think people should be free to say what they believe is right, regardless of what some people don't want to hear.
