Loneliness has nothing to do with being alone. You can feel lonely in a crowd. And being alone doesn't necessarily make you feel lonely.
The only way I have ever been able to get out of a lonely funk is by taking my mind off myself. Since I have family around me, it's easier to do. But if everyone's busy, I might call a friend I haven't talked to in a while and catch up with what's going on in her life. Or I call or stop in to visit my grandma. She doesn't get a lot of visitors and she loves the company. Or I might spend some extra time with my pets. Whatever I can do to focus on someone or something other than myself is the best medicine.
If I just want to wallow in my loneliness for a while, I might just be completely selfish and dive into a good book or maybe rent a bunch of DVDs and have a movie marathon. Either way, it gets my mind off of myself and I usually feel better.
Everyone gets lonely sometimes and it's normal. But chronic loneliness can be a sign of depression. If you feel lonely all the time and can't seem to get out of it, you may want to talk to your doctor. No one should feel lonely all the time.

I never really feel lonely. When I am alone I read and when I want company I go find a friend of mine and go out or make a new one and have some fun. But I am content within myself that I don't really care if anyones around or not.

My first response was going to be that I'm lonely because I'm never alone. But I guess I still get lonely & when I do I call family or friends or come on here....or use it to think about things....

I will talk to anyone willing to talk to me! Whether it may be the 411 directory assistant or the check out clerk at a local convenient store!! lol Sad, but true!!

I'm hardly lonely but when I am I just try and be happy! Turn the music up watch some comedy.... :D

I seek out Smokin Gun, Ron, and Ja'aj. That's what my friends are for. I also know that if I can't talk to them on here, they would not mind talking to me on the phone.
Friends help you not to be lonely.

I hate being lonely..which is why I am upset that everyone that I talk to online is leaving, which leaves me no one to chat w/ :(

i wish I had time alone to be lonely, with commitments and family etc...
I cherish those times when I was...anyway, it is a state of mind.
How can you be lonely is you answer questions from strangers...haha

i ride my mountain bike on trails. i get in touch with my family and friends more often than usual. i didn't think it'll be this hard but when loneliness really hits you, its not easy shaking it off.
