Consider this: you must have the actual physical object and you must be able to hold it in your hand. Also consider the difficulty and materials required. Example models would be a DS for example.

Well, within your restrictions... I would model my cell-phone in a 5:1 scale. Materials: extruded polystyrene foam for the body, heat-shrink plastic sheeting to cover, and plexiglass for the screen. Should leave me room inside for a basic lighting and sound system.

Now based on your question WITHOUT your restriction:

I'm currently modeling the Stockton CoGen power-plant (a coal-fired steam & power plant) in 1:160 scale (N-scale) for my model railroad. I obviously can't hold a 12 story plant in my hand, but I HAVE climbed all over it taking pics as a result of my brother being the plant supervisor.

I'm building it from Plastruct styrene structural shapes, aluminum and copper tubing, etched-brass (ladders, railings, and decking) and stainless steel micro-rod. The structure is also wired for tiny-tiny lights.

Hold it in my hand eh?

The Master's (from Doctor Who) laser screwdriver to go with my sonic screwdriver.

As to material, well I'd turn aluminium, brass and (probably) a dense chemiwood on a lathe to make most of the parts...

A dirigible like the Graf Zeppelin.
I think they are some of the most simple yet facinating machines created.
It would be complex and I would probably want the "skin"removeable so you could see the struts.

Hi:

For me A Saturn V Rocket along with the crawler at 1:144 scale .The rocket will be about 2 foot 1 and 1/16 inches high using paper tubes ,metal, and plastic it would be a challenge for any one to make, Make a working one ( except the rocket of course) at that scale would be even better However there are models that you can buy and build that will educate you and amuse you. So go out a buy one and start building and show it off to your friends and enjoy model build and meet other people who like to do the same.

Good luck and my best wishes to

i think he said you need to have something to measure that you can hold in your hand... not the model... you can't really hold a zeppelin nor the earth :P

I would build a calculator.

A picture, in a little frame.
That should be within my DIY capabilities.
A nice study, of her breasts perhaps.
