Since guitarist is a very general term, I am going to choose a bass guitarist as the BEST guitarist EVER!!! Taken far too early, Cliff Burton was, is and will always be the best guitarist to EVER place his digits on a string instrument. I personally did not get to see him place but the video of him in concert are amazing. You find one (just one) person who can play a bass as good as him and I will remove him from my recommendation.
