The fries and onion rings are cooked in the same fryer, and they are dumped into adjacent compartments on the warmer! It is only separated by a small panel, and when they cook is dumping the contents of the fry basket into the warmer, there is often a bit of spillover!
They also use the same scoop and containers for fries and onion rings! It is very easy to see how you will get a ring in your fries, or a fry in your rings!

I love the onion ring! But i guess they don't do it on purpose. It just happens.
