Titanium oxide and synthetic iron oxide are harmless. TiO2 is a white metal that is commonly used in many products to give them a white color, including leather, paint and plastics. There are other titanium oxides, but the mo Iron oxide is probably Fe3O4, which has a black color, though there are a number of oxides of iron that it could possibly be (see first link under references). Whether or not it is synthetic is normally unimportant since the molecules would be chemically identical, however, in this case, my understanding is that iron oxide dyes are generally produced synthetically so that naturally occuring dangerous ferrous oxides will not be included in the final product. Rest assured, they are not dangerous. I have included a few relevant wikipedia pages under sources.

Both titanium oxide and synthetic iron oxide are safe compounds that are used to color many items you've probably already exposed your son to, such as sunscreen or food coloring.
