That is Injuns. I mean how would she know she was the prettiest squaw in the tribe.

Or how was warpaint applied. By other warriors in the wigwam?

Excuse the ignorance, I come from England where the natives got bashed up by the Romans a long time ago. They would see their blue faces in the shiny Roman armour before they were stabbed to death by the short sword.

I'm not aware that Indians had mirrors before the European conquest of the Americas. I suppose you might see a reflection of yourself in a still pool of water, but otherwise you wouldn't know that you were pretty or ugly except by the reactions of others to you.

I think warpaint must have been applied by another Indian brave with whom you were going into battle.

"Injun" and "squaw" are both words you should avoid using. Wigwam refers to very specific housing construction that was not common so don't use it to refer to all tribes' housing arrangement.

On the subject of mirrors, any shiny surface can be polished to the a mirrored shine. Just like in ancient Europe, many surfaces provide a reflection suitable for mirrors. Obsidian is one of the early sources. It was popular for arrowheads so presumably it could have been polished for use as a mirror as well. Metals are also possibilities, as well as water.

No. Mirrors made of glass with a metal backing were used in Europe in the middle ages. It is possible that native Americans had other reflective devices ( a calm body of water, perhaps).

The prettiest squaw would have had many suitors. That is how she would know.

never call a Native woman a sqaw.....unless you don't like that baggage your carrying and want them cut off, and handed to you. No Mirrors no sun glasses, only natural things.
