I received my favorite gardening catalog in the mail the other day, and now I'm planning my garden. Are there any other gardeners out there who have started planning their gardens already? What do you plan to put in them? Just curious... :o)

Oops! I guess I should mention what I'm planting, eh? :o)

Seeds of Change is the only catalog I order from, and, boy, do they have some cool varieties this year! I may even try amaranth or quinoa if I can find space for them. Otherwise, I always plant tomatoes, potatoes, hot peppers, sweet peppers, sunflowers, squash, corn, basil, and I need to replant strawberries... that's where I'm at, for now. I have asperagus and blueberries plus catnip, beebalm, and chives (assuming they make it through winter) already in the garden. My daughter has her own garden, though I don't think she's planned it, yet.. I have grapevines, but I neglected them last year. I'll be busy trimming them and installing trellises this spring. Fun, fun, fun! :o)

Yes, that's me :) I always plan my garden for the coming year in winter time. It's nice to look at flower catalogs and try to match them together (growing conditions, colors, etc), it's a good way to be active during winter.
Mostly I grow my plants from seeds except perennials that only available as potted plants or slow growing. I already got 12 catalogs: Burpee, Parkseed, Jungseed, etc and with that many catalogs to look at, it's hard to choose which ones I'm gonna try :)

Here is my list so far:
Begonia Queen White, Petunia Avalanche, Aster Bouquet Powderpuff, Baptisia Australis, Miss Lucy (Double) Oriental Lily, Rudbeckia Prairie Sun, Echinecia Baby Swan, Laurentia and some bicolor gladiolus (Flaming Meteor, Blue Frost)

I"ve been planning my garden since I raked the last leaf this fall. I live in zone 6 where the summers have been extremely hot and humid and this year a drought to boot. Up until 2 yrs. ago I grew over 300 different perennials but because of such drastic weather changes I have had to change my way of gardening. I now plant daylilies as they do so well here and are heat and drought tolerent and the fact they are easy to care for.
At first I thought that growing one type of plant would be boring but the daylilies have proven me wrong. I now have approx.150 different varieties. This coming year I plan on adding another 50 or more. I will continue to grow annuals and perennials to fill in the empty spaces. And my resolution this year is to save myself money and only buy plants that are suitable for my area. Native plants serve this purpose well. Good luck to all of you in your planning.

I love wild flowers cone flowers, lavender, butterfly bushes, hummingbird mint are a few I already have of course there asleep right now. I plan on having sunflowers again this year and a pink and white dogwood trees. Still trying to plan if you have any ideas please let me know. Oakelfshimmer

Although I haven't "formally" started planning, it's already in my head! I have 2 little girs, ages 1 and 3, and of course I sort of have to plan around them and their naps. I'm only doing a vegetable garden, not enough time for flowers right now! I am looking forward to having my 3 year old help this year! She really likes picking the veggies when they are ready, she loves tomatoes and peas!!! Thanks for the question! Goodluck.

I just got my Burpee seed catalog today, so I've definitely got spring fever, just a TOUCH early ;-) I'll probably order in a few days; I don't have a lot of room, but a patio without tomatoes is just... well... WRONG!!!!

Happy Gardening :-)

Yes, we start thinking about next spring/summer while we are cleaning up the yard in the fall. lol

The new gardening catalogs are breath taking this year. If anyone is new to this, here are just a couple to send for, they are free:

Have you heard of "winter sowing"? We are going to do a bit of this in our outside large containers. Here is how it is done, click this link:
