is acting the best career?

it gives you lots of money
it gives you lots of respect from people
usually a career offering lots of money and respect from people would require you to take time away from fun and entertainment and do some hard work but in acting you are right in the center of the world of fun and entertainment all the time.

Actually...

the majority of actors are not working and don't get much more than background and bit work.
You're only respected if you're in the 1% who are actually talented and good-looking enough to have a good stable career, not a fleeting one.
Acting itself is hard. Immersing yourself into a completely different person's personality, image, thought process is difficult. Ever wonder why there are so many bad actors? Because it's actually difficult as hell. It's not fun, unless you're part of the talentless and popular group, in which it's fun until you're washed-up and have to go to rehab.
So really, acting is the best career if you think starving yourself to look decent and working as a waitress/waiter is the best career.

You expect to be respected by being an actor? HA! I actually pity the really famous ones as they are harassed by the paparazzi (not sure I spelled that correctly). Your life would no longer be your own; all your fans would follow your every move. And not all actors are rich; a lot of them have other jobs to bring in the money. It's a LOT of HARD WORK.

Many think so. But it isn't at all fun and entertainment all the time, it is often boreing and dull, it is sometimes hectic and nerve wracking. And most of all it is damned hard to earn a living at it.
