If your local garden centers don't offer Hawthorn trees in the spring or fall, you could try the following sites:
Raintree Nursery has four varieties:
http://www.raintreenursery.com/catalog/producttype.cfm?producttype=Hawthorn
Nature Hills has one variety still available called Crusader (Crataegus crusgalli 'Crusader'):
http://www.naturehills.com/new/product/productdetails.aspx?proname=Crusader+Hawthorn
Good Luck! Hope this is helpful.

Depending where you are in the country, you need to pick the berries when you have the firstfrost. I have made wine from the berries. the berries are called Haw berries and in times gone by, the first frost used to be called Haw Frost as that was the time you picked the berries. You need to pick about 3lbs of berries and use the same amount of sugar. I dont have the exact recipe but you can look it up on the net. This makes white wine. You need to ferment it for some time otherwise it will taste bitter.
