The Exorcist (1973) - scariest movie ever made
The Omen (1976) - second scariest movie ever made
Alien (1979) - third scariest movie ever made
Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th are tied for fourth, followed by The Ring.

I agree with the Exorcist, not the TV version, they cut out too much. And I thought the second Alien film Aliens was actually better which is unusual for a sequel to be better or as good.

The scariest line I have ever seen in a film is Mia Farrow's "this is no dream this is really happening" in Rosemary's Baby, so I'd go with this film by Mr. Polanski.

I enjoyed The Descent. Not many modern day horror films have given me a good thrill like The Descent.
