I'm young, well about 17 and I was wondering what to expect when traveling on a greyhound for 12 hours (IN to NC). I've always flown, but tomorrow is my first day traveling on a greyhound. Any tips for a young greyhound traveler? Thanks.

well, you are responsible for your luggage. When you get off a bus, you have to wait until they give you your luggage back, and carry it around until they board your next bus. It kinda sucks when traveling alone because who's going to watch your bag when you want to go to the bathroom in the terminal?

bring some nice quit entertainment. You can't talk on the cell phone the whole way there. I mean you can talk a little, but i wouldn't be having long conversations. that is rude to everyone else. bring a travel pillow if you have one, and some snacks.

Chad and googie's tips are great!!! It will definitely be an experience for you. I hope you don't smoke since you're 17 and all, but if you do, be sure to bring some gum or something. I have heard Greyhound doesn't make smoke break stops. That's the only tip I can offer that they didn't cover already. Oh, when I go on trips like that I like to take a highway map, marker & a camera to track where I am. It breaks up the monotony if you can't sleep and are bored. Also it's pretty cool to just see where you are on a map. Have fun!

You will see a lot of the country, much different from your hometown. Be weary of all that goes on around you for your own safety. Take along something to read, buy a couple of easy to carry snacks and don't forget some water.Your first bus trip should be an experience.
