If my three goldfish plus two other tiny fish are living in a pond, what should the temp. be for them to live in?
I went outside recently to check on them & feed them and the biggest goldfish Turbo was moving quite slowly, and what worries me is maybe the water temperature is too cold or if he's sick. I can't tell.
The water temperature right now is about 45-50 deg.

Can anyone help??
Thank you!

As already state d these are cold water fish. If you have a fast turn over filter it would be a good idea to cut down the flow ( see current) so as to reduse the energy demands of said fish.
Also you should have stopped feeding before the winter set in. This is so there is no food in the digestive tract of the fish. Which will not digest properly in winter and may cause the death of the fish. They must have higher temps to properly digest.
A well feed fish can go a month with out food with no real harm.
The "pet fish industry " ,see fish farms, wholesellers and shippers do not feed those fish due do the fact that those fish will foul they're water in shipping and die.
Look on the net or buy a good book on "pond fish ".Also remember to put into your questin next time what part of the U.S. your pond is in.

It's normal for these fish to move slowly in cold water; they are cold-blooded creatures, and without warm water to give them a bit more energy, they're going to appear to be lethargic. I've seen entire ponds of goldfish freeze over; as long as SOME of the water remains liquid, your fish will be fine.

He's moving slowly because the water temp is cold. He'll be fine. If it gets really cold for the fish they will head for the deepest part of the pond because the water will be warmer. Here's a good article about winterizing ponds.

I can see my goldfish and koi moving very slowly under more than a foot of ice. 45 deg water is like bathwater to Turbo. He's fine. RScott

They are slow because it is cold. Gold Fish are cold water fish and as long as your pond is deep enough which I think is only 2ft then your fish should be just fine.

Stop feeding, you will just make the water build up ammonia. Goldfish digestive systems stop processing food around 55F. They can go the winter without, kinda like hibernation.
