David Hicks walked free yesterday and has controversially refused to apologise for his crime.

everyone needs to get over it unless you know the man personally and know how and why he got to that point in his life then you should shut your mouth and stop judging- stop letting the media brain wash you for god sake they talk so much crap. this man is my cousin and i sick of everyone having their opinion without ever meeting the bloke or getting any real facts. don't get me wrong i never agreed with 9/11 it was a horrible thing but he had nothing to do with it. he's has done his time in a cruel and unjustly place he will tell his story in due time when he feels comfortable he has a hell of a lot to deal with at the moment just leave him alone and let him try to get on with his life

I think it is us Australians who should say sorry. We comfortably sit in our easy chairs crying fowl over genocide and crimes against humanity all over the world. We fly victims from Kosovo to our own shores, we invaded East Timor in the name of justice and human rights. Yet when an Australian citizen falls down and makes a terrible mistake instead of dealing with it ourselves we go hand him over to a foreign power to torture and punish indefinitely to their own satisfaction without the need of a fair trial or any kind of check or balance that a civilized society would demand. The last time this kind of rampant lynch-mob mentality occurred in this country we put Lindy Chamberlain in jail for 3 years only to find out she was totally innocent and had to be compensated for wrongful imprisonment. We even treated the perpetrators of the Nazi Holocaust for far worse crimes against humanity better than the abysmal way David Hicks was treated by his own government. Do I agree with what David Hicks did or any other "terrorist" out there - absolutely not and never will. But I will defend to the death his right to a fair trial and basic common decency and human rights. For isn't that why we sent our guys over there to fight for in the first place? If the answer is anything else, then who is the pot and who is the kettle and who doesn't have black soot on them?
Post edit: David Hicks according to the terms of the kangaroo court papers he signed, is not allowed to comment in the media about the affair for 12 months after release. Anything he does comment on could be grounds for him landing back in Gulag-anomo Bay. The fact this period of time coincided with an Australian Federal Election
says everything about what is going on here.

For those who asked - David Hicks (a.k.a. Muhammed Dawood) is an Australian citizen who was convicted by US Military tribunal of terrorism, having actively fought alongside Al Queda in Afghanistan. After being held in Guantanamo (and allegedly being abused) he was returned to the Australian government and released... today.
He should be facing life in prison.

I dont understand your logic what does he have to be sorry for he was held in a prison for six years and never charged with anything if anyone should be sorry it should be us for allowing the australian government to let the american government to detain him there have been more CIA involved crimes that go unpunished The US govt Aus Govt And the UK Govt invading IRAQ and overthrew that govt authority they done exacly what Adolf Hitler done in the Second world War The American Gov tested radioactive fallout on there own soldiers as well as agent orange None of these have ever been brought to trial have they ? Did you know that theUS Govt is responsible for about 25% of the worlds illegal weapon sales

Hey give him a chance to recover and get back down to earth..
In due time he will apologize and explain.
He can't say anything till March next year.he still has legal issues.

I don't think so. It's not clear if he was charged for anything. Who would he say sorry to? I don't think he should be released.
