George Bernard Shaw said that the LACK of money is the root of all evil. It's an interesting thought.

"Money is the root of all Evil", so the song says.

You may have noticed that the evil among us are usually those who will accept a bribe [money] for doing something corrupt. Fixing the results of an election and so forth.

Yes, money is the root and cause of all evil and until it was invented, humanity was far less evil.

When we put money into the collection box for a charity of our choice, just how much or how little of our money actually goes to the people we're trying to help?

Money - it's the root of all Evil.

Do any of us trust our banks? You know how it goes. Hey, says the bank, let me lend you some money! You'll be okay and you only have to pay back the interest, blah etc.

We've all been there.

We struggle through our lives, get hooked on the need for money, borrow more than is good for us and fight hard to pay it all back before we're so old we die.

Meanwhile the money lenders, who incidentally were once whipped out of the Temple at Jerusalem by Jesus, live a lavish life-style at our expense.

Money - it is the root of all evil.

Evil truly exists in this world. As someone that has had to deal with true evil, I feel the "root" of it is the absence of respect for god, or true good if you are an atheist.

Evil resides in human hearts, but the root of evil can be minute, or grow into a formidable force. I believe true evil is formidable and something I hope few of you ever have to experience.

Nothing is the root of ALL evil. Obviously the phrase suggests that it's money but that's just a figure of speech, it might be largely to blame for the evil in the world but there are plenty of other causes of evil.

Good question and I'm sure there are several good answers that will depend on how people view such things. To me, the root of all evil is money. Yes, these days we all need it to live but it also causes greed, which causes envy and so forth. People are killed for what little they may have in their wallets, people are judged for what money they have or what the money can buy. So to me, that's what the root of all evil is.

That's not money as you thought I would answer. The root of all evil is the tug and lure of man's own passion, which once conceived will give birth to an evil scheme, and when that scheme reaches maturity the tragedy is done.

Philosophically speaking, I'd have to say that the absolute root of all evil would be "Want".

An individual takes advantage of his neighbour economically. He WANTS to have more money, because he WANTS the prestige, or the power, or simply a bigger TV.

Wars are fought because both sides Want something. Whether it be land, followers, resources. They WANT something, and attempt to take it.

An individual cheats on their spouse. There's many reasons this could be, they WANT to feel loved, they WANT to accomplish some end, or they just WANT sex.

I'm not an expert on the subject by any means, but I believe, too, that Buddha's philosophy on it was that wants and desires are what introduce problems into our lives. (Just a side note.)

Women.... lol

But seriously, there is no true root to evil. Its only evil because that is how we see it. Many people consider homosexuality evil. The ancient Romans commited homosexual acts quite often. To them it was not evil.

Like light and dark, good and evil is a perception.

A question which provides only very subjective answers. The perception of what is evil will be different for each one of us.

Satan? How can you believe something that does not exist is evil?

Money? Maybe, but without it we are kind of stuffed.

My own opinion is that it is mankind itself.
