Like when you type in an ip, and you get the user/password window.

Well what can you actually see from that? Can you see what devices have been using your internet? Can you see what people have been surfing w/ that router's internet?

What else can you do?

You can set up one of 3 Security Options
WEP
WPA
WPA-2
This will protect your network and limit the use to only those that know the Username and Password.
Otherwise they can't get on, they can see there is a network but thats it , It's like I hear you knocking but you can't come in.
Depending on your router and paperwork, normally typing.
192.168.1.1 will let you access the routers utility, so you can set it up.

You will see the firmware of the router.in the firmware you will be able to see who is connected to your network, for how many minutes they have been logged in.you will also be able to set the password of your network there, block computers from using your network using ip/mac filtering and many more.it is very useful especially if you know how to use it.if i where you, i am going to change the default username and password of your router so that no one else can change your settings inside of the router.
